Decade-long Labour Market Forecast to be Unveiled by Petroleum HR Council.

(Calgary, AB) - A looming labour shortage in the oil and gas industry is just one of the results from the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada's (Petroleum HR Council) Supply/Demand Analysis 2009-2020 report, to be unveiled during a press conference on June 2.

"In the labour market, decisions are only as good as the information you have," says Cheryl Knight, Executive Director and CEO of the Petroleum HR Council. "This comprehensive report gives workers, industry and government a detailed picture of the oil and gas labour market for the next decade so they can make the right choices in the years to come."

The Supply/Demand Analysis 2009-2020 report not only projects labour demand for the main parts of the oil and gas industry, but also reveals specific jobs that will be needed into the future. According to the report, over 100,000 workers will be needed over the next 10 years to support new oil and gas activity and replace retiring workers. Of those, approximately 65,000 will be in the industry's core occupations, such as engineers, trades, operators and field workers.

On hand to discuss the details of the report and respond to media inquiries will be the Petroleum HR Council's Executive Director & CEO Cheryl Knight; Kim McCaig, Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association; Elizabeth Aquin, Senior Vice President of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada; and Janet Annesley, Vice President, Communications of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
