Industry Overview

Canada is a significant player in the global energy business, producing about 3.3 million barrels per day of crude oil and 16.2 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, which is exported primarily to U.S. markets. The industry makes significant contributions to the domestic economy as a large employer of Canadians and through direct investment and taxes.

Canada is the world's third-largest producer of natural gas and sixth-largest producer of crude oil.

Canada's energy sector is a major contributor to our national economy accounting for six per cent of our country's GDP and 26 per cent of our total exports. The sector provides essential services, wealth and operates in a high-technology environment.
