ITT Model: Workplace Experiences
Key to retention of employees are the experiences they have in
their workplace. An employee who feels supported and engaged at
work is much more likely to stay with and contribute productively
to the company.
Companies can create positive workplace experiences by creating a
company culture, policies and practices that support and motivate
employees. Remember that this must be continually reinforced since
employees make their exit/stay decision every
single day.
A number of tactics increase retention, including:
- Implementing equality and integration policies and procedures,
such as:
- Flexible schedules
- Competitive benefits
- Effective orientation programs
- Diversity training and mentorship
- Creating links among workers through:
- Mentoring programs
- Social events
- Team building
- Leadership training
- An employee referral program
- Offering benefits that emphasize positive workplace
experiences, such as
- Career development
- Training and scholarships for employees and their families
- On-site child care, networking, meals, recreation and fitness
facilities
- Staff programs for wellness, personal financial planning, and
community involvement
- Company transportation
- Spousal employment
- Recognition and reward programs
