ITT Model: Personal/Family Values and Perceptions
Individual values and perceptions play a significant role in
career decisions. Values shape beliefs about what is desirable, and
values can change over time. For example, employees who get
married, become parents or complete a trade or degree will look at
the world slightly differently than they did before. Employees with
spouses and/or families will also consider their family members'
values and perceptions when choosing a career, company or
community.
Values and perceptions may be impacted by an individual's:
- Career plans and goals
- Family/personal situation
- Cultural background
- Education, training and experience
- Exposure to the petroleum industry
- Financial situation
Companies and communities that understand and leverage the
importance of personal and family values and perceptions have a
strengthened ability to build and retain the loyalty of their
employees and citizens.
