ITT Model: Community Attractiveness
Community attractiveness plays an important role in an
individual's decision to accept or reject an employment offer.
Potential employees, especially those with a spouse and/or family,
consider many factors about a community before they choose to
relocate.
While the concept of community attractiveness is very dependent
on individual values and needs, potential employees will likely
assess some or all of the following attributes:
- Schools and education system
- Housing availability and affordability
- Spousal employment opportunities
- Availability and diversity of shopping, entertainment,
recreation, cultural activities and places of worship
- Distance and access to larger centres
- Community reputation
- Crime rate
Obviously companies cannot control this themselves. Community
attractiveness can only be increased with collaboration among:
- School boards and post-secondary institutions
- Chambers of commerce
- Municipal/regional governments
- Economic development departments
- Community groups
- Provincial governments
- Other companies and industry sectors
