A new employee needs to feel like an important team member from day one. So a first step in retention is ensuring new employees are welcomed and properly oriented. However, new employees need extra attention well beyond their first day. "On-boarding" refers to the activities employers need to take on during an employee's first few days - and months - to ensure they are integrated in their job, workplace and community.
